     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.² He was educated at Trinity Higher, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.² He was managing managing director of the London Evening Stnadard in 1973.² He was managing director of Beaverbrook Newspapers in 1974.² He was Rector and Vice-Provost of the Royal College of Arts betwixt 1984 and 1992.² He was chairman of English language Heritage between 1992 and 2000.ⁱⁱ He was appointed Commander, Imperial Victorian Guild (C.V.O.) in 1993.¹ He was appointed Knight in 1996.²
